Session times and costs

  • Our after-school workshops run from school finish time to 5 pm - we take charge of the children onsite as soon as school finishes.

  • On-site classes cost $38/session including GST and all materials used in class: Our artKids teachers meet the children on site, supervise them while they eat their afternoon tea,  then take them into the classroom or to the hall facility nearby (depending on the school).

  • Dropping off from a different school: Children attending from another school should be at the designated school by 3.30 pm at the latest.

  • Sibling discounts available.

  • All materials used in our class projects are provided by us - there is no need for parents to remember to pack anything for their child or purchase additional materials unless they choose to do so.

  • We have recently lanched our artKids Art Scholarship program for those experiencing financial hardship. Please contact us for more information.

Collecting children after class

Collecting children

Parents collect their children at the designated finish time of 5 pm (or equivalent). Our teachers have their own families, evening studies and life commitments. We ask that you are on time to collect your child. In some instances, there are unavoidable delays such as traffic. Please text or call your class teacher and let them know you are on your way.

Covid-19 Pick up - Students must be signed out by an artKids Team member. Please do not remove your child from the premises before speaking directly with one of our assistants verbally and visibly acknowledging collection. Please note the various measures put in place at each artKids site with regard to social distancing, etc.

  • Credit card payment can be arranged. Please note there is a 1.75% +0.30c transaction fee. Contact us

  • No classes run on public holidays and fees are not charged for public holidays.

  • We want your child to have an enjoyable art experience. If your child is unhappy for any reason, please let us know immediately so we can work with your child - no matter how small the incident may seem. Sometimes friends fall out of favour with each other, sometimes a child may make a hurtful or unwitting comment that will upset your child. This type of behaviour is not part of our artKids art agreement with the children and we want to know about it.

  • If you do choose to cancel your child’s enrolment within the seven days before the class commencement or during the term, we are happy to refund the remaining fee less a $55 administration fee - we prefer happy students and happy parents but do need to cover our costs.

Term times

Term times

Classes run according to school term times.

Saturday classes do not run the last week of term, that is, we do not run the first weekend of school holidays.

Paid Trial class available upon request

Trial clases

One-off Paid Trial: We offer one-off paid trial class so you can see if the class is for your child. The fee is for one stand-alone class, payable before the class. If your child likes the class and you choose to book for the term, the trial class comes off the term fee.

Kindergarten Trials: As there is such a wide range of skills and ability to focus for children at this age, we prefer to see how the child copes with a class situation before agreeing to enrol the child. We do not expect them to be drawing/painting for the whole session, but we do expect they can focus on art-related activities for the time. Please note we are an art class - not a child-minding service. Please contact us to book your trial class.

Children with learning needs policy

Learing needs

We aim to be inclusive and find that art is a great way for children with learning needs or from different countries to express themselves. However, we are passionate artists firsts, educators second and not designated special needs educators. We are more than happy for parents, carers or support workers to attend our classes with a child. We do ask parents to fill in our Safety Form with both medical and learning needs information to assist us with children's learning needs. We will work with parents and children to aim for an enjoyable art experience for all students in our class, however, should your child’s learning needs and behaviour take our teachers away from the bulk of the class, we will suggest small group or one-on-one tutoring as an alternative.

Three-week Behaviour Improvement Policy:  In the first week, we observe behaviour and then discuss with parents the child’s needs within the class setting, agreeing on a behaviour management plan. Working with you and your child, we will aim to see an improvement in the child's attentiveness and behaviour in the second week. We will try one more session before we suggest private or semi-private tutoring alternatives.

Ill children or extended holidays

Ill children

In the event your child is ill on the day of their art class, please text or call the mobile of the designated teacher. We ensure your children are safe and it is frustrating to waste art time following up on the whereabouts of ill children.

As a general rule, if your child is not well enough to attend school, please do not send them to art in the afternoon. We provide a make-up class for ill children so your child won't miss out. Please see our Make-up Class Policy below.

Under Covid-19 Health and Safety Policy, if children are showing signs of illness - runny nose, listlessness, high temperature - parents/carers will be called and asked to collect their child immediately. The child will be isolated within the room until they can be collected.

If you know ahead of time that you will be away, for example, an extended overseas trip, family emergency or unexpected ongoing illness with doctor's certificate, please let us know and we can make credit arrangements.

Make-up classes

Make up class

We understand children get sick and we don't want kids or parents to feel they've missed out. We offer a make-up class at our Turner Studio on Saturday, or where multiple classes are offered at the same school, your child can attend a make-up class on another day.

For your make-up class to be valid, parents MUST text the teacher on the day the child is ill. If we have to chase up parents or the school to locate your child, the make-up session is forfeit. We take our duty of care seriously and we waste valuable art-making time following up missing children, which is not fair on other students.

Please advise us at to make the arrangements for the make-up session.

In special circumstances of prolonged illnesses or with a doctor’s certificate, we can provide credit for missed classes for the following term.

Any personal and medical information you supply to artKids Canberra will not be disclosed outside our artKids Teachers and Assistants without your express consent, except where required by law. artKids Canberra will, from time-to-time, email parents and carers of students and past students for marketing purposes, and always with the option to unsubscribe from our contact mailing list should you wish.
